The Transformation
Constructed in 1894, the Council Hills United Methodist Church served as a vital community hub, initially as a place of worship and later as a wedding chapel.
The former sanctuary has been reimagined into an open-concept living and dining area, with three bedrooms, and an outdoor celebration area. A major objective was to maintain an inviting, cozy ambiance amongst soaring ceilings that rise over 20 feet. In this central space, an old organ has been ingeniously repurposed into a bar cart, original lighting illuminates the area above, and large doors lead to a patio offering stunning views of the scenic farmland hills. Terry and Carolyn welcome you to their dream escape, designed and built from a love for Galena and the overlooked beauty of the Midwest. “Our primary goal was to witness this transformation and to honor the fact that this church, built in 1894, still stands today,” said Terry Swails, The Galena Gazette.
